In Vietnam port-city system, Pho Hien emerged as a little Trang An, second only to Thang Long capital, as emphasized in an idiom: capital takes the first spot and Pho Hien is ranked as the second”. The geographical location, historical context and feudal state policy made this place a multi-cultural town. The interference of cultures helped to shape urban diversity in the organization of urban space, the architectural styles, the demographical structure, and the commercial activities… In order to enlighten this argument, it is essential to collect and study a wide range of documentations for an in-depth view of an old town that flourished in the urban history of Vietnam.
